#10 Johnny Depp=Fashion Icon

Johnny Depp, a man of many hats & talent (and of course brooding good looks), will be the first man to be awarded CFDA's Fashion Icon award this coming June. Tis a great honour to receive such an award but it seems Johnny is playing it cool ; after all he has preference for vintage clothing, fedoras & sunglasses over designer brands. However his casual perspective on fashion along with his dozen tattoos & disheveled (yet covetable) hair makes this dashingly grunge man the perfect fit as a style icon.

Besides his nonchalant style, Johnny's ability to be a chameleon earns him the reputation of Hollywood's most beloved. From teen heartthrob Tom Hanson to the creepy creation with a heart of gold known as Edward Scissorhands to the quirky Willy Wonka to a rum loving Jack Sparrow, Johnny's versatile characters & fashions are a force to be reckon with.

Whether he's molded into Tim Burton's latest creation or clean&shaven in a dapper suit or scruffy in a pinstripe vest (which he loves to wear), I think we can all agree, Johnny Depp has made history.

#9 New Show Format

In the era of blooming technology, the fashion world finds itself adapting to such digital advancement. Burberry, in particular has been of the most successful brands that uses technology to its advantage. This past A/W 11, Burberry wowed us all with a holographic runway show in Beijing. The audience is surrounded by screens showcasing virtual yet stylish avatars wearing the classic trench coat whilst twirling around with a Burberry umbrella. Soon after it transitions into a dramatic video of Cara Delevingne & Sebastian Brice dashing through the rain (in Burberry naturally). Its not till the near end that you see 6 non-virtual models come down the runway. This show was not just a mere fashion show but the future of fashion. Let's see what designers will do to top a hologram show.

#8- Lookbooks

Lookbooks are basically a fashion portfolio. It's an excellent way to promote & showcase styles and clothing lines. American Apparel became the first brand to establish a digital to print lookbook through various social fashion websites. American Apparel collaborated with Lookbook.nu & created a 64 page print lookbook that presents Lookbook.nu users wearing American Apparel in their own style.
In order to achieve more exposure, American Apparel also held a contest in which Lookbook.nu users fabricate their best interpretation of the brand's clothing. Out of 7,000 looks, 3 lucky & stylish winners became American Apparel cover models.

#7 Salvatore Ferragamo Online Trunk Show

For those of you who don't know, a trunk show is basically an exclusive sale in which vendors showcase merchandise to select customers & store personnel before its made available to the public. Trunk shows are generally popular in bridal wear (think Kleinfield). About 2 years ago, online trunk shows began to scratch the surface. Bergdorf Goodman & Salvatore Ferragamo became the first to launch an online trunk show.
I quite like Salvatore Ferragamo's S/S12 collection; it's very colourful & the sandals are oh so chic.
You have the option of creating your own personalized look from the collection!

#6-Burberry A/W 2012

Burberry, arguably considered a designer media empire, has showcased quite the show at Hyde Park for LFW. Inside a transparent tent (that seemed like a giant greenhouse), both the sun & the inside lights shone down, making the white runway look brighter. Christopher Bailey's taste in clothes is as exquisite in his taste in music. As the models strut down the runway, they were accompanied by the melodic sounds of Ella Rae, Joan Amatrading, & Marina And The Diamonds. The fall A/W collection carried colours of mustard, browns, greens, burgundy & greys as well as eplum silhouettes cinched waists, quirky owl tees, newspaper boy hats & of course the classic trench. The finale was surprisingly dramatic as a simulated thunderstorm rains down on the tent & fake rain showered down on the guests inside. As the models appear once more in a single file line, they carried umbrellas to shield themselves from the  "rain". The umbrellas are not ordinary of course; the umbrellas had studded handles & striped designs ( both motifs which were present in the collection). Christopher Bailey is a true genius & after watching this show, it reminds me why Burberry is one of my favourite labels.

#5-Flowing With The Wind

As spring approaches, we are all itching to shed away our heavy winter wardrobe for something lighter. This spring I see that light & flowing garments seem to be big. I personally find that a flowy dress or skirt is very liberating/comfortable as well as stylish.A flowy dress can be paired with heels, flats & even sneakers. You can accessorize with a bright jewelry or a bold clutch.
Fret not ladies, spring is almost here & you'll be flowing with the wind in no time.

#4 Fashion Language

In the world of fashion, it's crucial to speak & understand the vogue tongue. Cathy Horyn, journalist for the NY Times is a perfect example of someone who speaks fashion. Cathy uses her eloquent & articulative words to not only say positive comments but also the negative comments as well. Fortunately for Alexander McQueen, Cathy has taken a liking to the most recent collection.

"Everybody seems to be talking about three-dimensional fashion, and the future. Tonight, at Salle Wagram, the same place where Alexander McQueen staged his dance-marathon collection, his successor, Sarah Burton, gave a magical rendering of both. The show started calmly with snowy white bell-shape coatdresses and laser-cut calf skin, resembling lace. All the models wore helmetlike white-blond wigs, their eyes shielded by visors. Then Ms. Burton turned up the volume, first with feathery and fur coats (like dandelion heads before the wind catches them), and gradually the shapes became monumental in scale. Ms. Burton’s presentation was beautiful, but the monumental aspect was riveting — how it affects your eye. Tomorrow, in the McQueen showroom, I’ll take a closer look."

#3- NYC Street Style

NYC, the city that never sleeps & one of the world's fashion capitals (and for good reason too.)  In the midst of what possibly is the warmest winter, people are already begging for spring to arrive. While we all know pops of colour are starting to scratch the surface, the tough and edginess of leather still hangs on. Leather is ever so chic, modern and fierce. This trend is cool in the winter and will look even cooler in the spring. So don't stash away your leather goods just yet!

#2 Key Trend For Fall 2012

After sifting through various fashion shows on Style.com, I have come to the conclusion that the next trend to make its debut is the belted dress. This style is quite simple yet very flattering for the body. A belted dress can be styled in countless ways & can suit to anyone's taste. This style can be anything from a bright maxi dress with a dark belt and flats to a belted frock with a leather jacket & boots to a calf length dress with a chunky cable knit sweater & wedges. The belted dress is fairly simple to do & the glorious thing about it, is that mostly everyone has a belt & dress in their closet; so there's no need to go shopping. Then again, girls love to shop just for the sake of shopping. Which in that case, I hope you ladies have fun picking a stylish belted dress!

#1- Blogs I Enjoy

One of my most favourite blogs has to be Chictopia. It's an online community, whose members come from all over the world but they bond together in the name of fashion. This site is filled to the brim with countless inspiration from chic individuals, fashion trends & style tips. What's also intriguing about Chictopia is their "chic" points. Members get points by doing simple things such as commenting on someone's post. Garner yourself enough points & you get rewarded with something as   fabulous as a fresh pair of shoes! Who wouldn't want free shoes?

Another blog I love to look at is Emily Schuman's Cupcakes And Cashmere. This Cali girl has quite the taste in not only fashion but food as well. This stylish foodie blogs about her outfits (of course!), recipes, beauty & home. Emily generously gives her readers beauty/hair how-tos,recipes to some delish food & fashionable tips on home improvement.
